Following the decision not to pursue criminal charges, Bauer filed a defamation lawsuit against Hill in April 2022, aiming to clear his name and seek damages for harm to his reputation and career. In response, Hill countersued for sexual battery four months later, maintaining her false allegations. As part of the settlement, neither party admitted wrongdoing, and no monetary exchange occurred between Bauer and Hill. Hill had made an appearance on a left-leaning feminist podcast called Breaking Balls with Emily Nyman, and other podcasts have discussed her allegations in a light favorable to her false accusations — despite text messages that surfaced that showed Hill and a friend talking about her plans to falsely accuse him for enormous amounts of money (a motive that many irrational people in the public sphere profusely deny as a mere possibility).
